The Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Thursday lifted the lockdown imposed on the state.

Ganduje, however, cautioned the state residents that the fight had yet to be completely won, urging them to continue to comply with COVID-19 protocols.

He said,  “There is no doubt that we are succeeding,  there is no doubt the fight against COVID-19 is a reality in Kano and silently giving positive results, not in terms of infections but in terms of declining effects of COVID-19.

“This is not just by speculation, it’s not by imagination and it’s not by storytelling, it is an issue based on facts and figures, it is an issue that we can tell confidently.’

On June 25, we submitted 154 samples and recorded zero per cent of infection; we released 25 positive cases that are now negative.

‘’There was no single death on June 27;  we submitted 492 samples, only four were positive, we released 17, while only point eight per cent were positive from the sample we submitted.

‘’On June 28, we submitted 327 samples and only five were discovered to be positive, we released 31 who recovered. We had zero death and the percentage of infection was 1.5. On June 30, we submitted 350 samples and only five tested positive, 37 were released and discharged, with only death.

“The statistics are an indication that the state is winning the battle on the COVID-19 pandemic, a situation that informed our decision of the state government to totally lift the lockdown to enable economic activities to be reactivated.”
