The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has rejected the appointment of Pharm. A. T. Mora as Chairman of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN).

It said the appointment of Mora by the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, is against the tenets of good pharmaceutical practice because the newly appointed Chairman is on its Roll of Dishonour after being stripped of the Fellowship of the PSN.

The pharmacists’ society stressed that a person who is technically suspended in the relevant profession cannot be appointed Chief Regulator of the same profession.

It further casted aspersions on the authenticity of Mora being a Professor of Pharmacy, questioning how he suddenly became a Professor of Clinical Pharmacy in Nigeria, for a man who claims to have a Ph. D in Management.

The National Secretary of the PSN, Pharm. (Chief) Emeka Duru, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

According to him: “Some weeks ago against all rational logic and the tenets of good Pharmacy practice in Nigeria, Dr. Osagie Enahire led Federal Ministry of Health, in brazen act which is unprecedented decided to inaugurate a rejected Pharm. A. T. Mora as the Chairman of PCN.

“In this capacity of Chairman, Pharm. A. T. Mora statutorily becomes the Chairman of the Disciplinary Tribunal of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN).

“The PSN rejects this appointment in its entirety because we are committed to stopping the challenges of value migration if we shall ever attain the goals of nation building.

“Ahmed Mora is presently on the Roll of Dishonour of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) after being stripped of the Fellowship of the PSN.

“This led to the automatic suspension of his Membership of PSN since 2009. We ask how can a person who is technically suspended in the relevant profession (Pharmacy) be appointed Chief Regulator of the same profession.

“Pharm. A. T. Mora is said to have emerged Professor of Clinical Pharmacy after 6 years of emerging a full-time academic from 2012 to 2017. For a man who claims to have a Ph. D in Management, how did he suddenly become a Professor of Clinical Pharmacy in Nigeria?

“There is evidence based clarification that Pharm. Mora falsified, to his personal advantage, some existing Pharmacy and Drug laws which certainly is not in public interest.”

He added: “We strongly urge you, gentlemen of the press, to conduct investigations into the career profile of Pharm. Mora and the vicious cycle of inglorious exit he has always encountered. Specifically, find out the circumstances of his exit as Director of Pharmaceutical Services in Kaduna State, Managing Director, Zaria Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Registrar/Secretary, PCN and Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Kaduna State University.”

Efforts by The Nation to reach the PCN proved abortive as at the time of filing the report.

The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria is a Federal Government agency, established by Decree 91 of 1992 (due to transfer of power from military to civilian in 1999), to regulate and control the practice of pharmacy in Nigeria.
