Nigeria Professional Football League side Kano Pillars have received knocks on social media platforms following their unveiling of the club’s jersey for the 2020/21 season.
Sai Masu Gida posted pictures of their new jersey on Twitter, informing Nigerians about their kit design partnership deal with an unnamed Turkish company.
“Kano Pillars FC chairman, Alhaji Surajo Shaaibu Jambul, has presented the club’s proposed jersey for the 2020/21 football season to the club management staff in his office on Thursday, in Kano. Alhaji Surajo Jambul made the presentation during the management meeting at the club’s secretariat.
“He said the club is on the verge of completing a partnership with a Turkish company that will be producing the newly designed jerseys,” Pillars tweeted with pictures of Jambul holding the new jerseys on Thursday.
However, the manner in which the club unveiled the new jersey irked fans, who were angered by the four-time Nigerian champions’ inability to organise an unveiling ceremony.
“So much for a ‘professional’ football club. Come and buy proper camera to take good pictures if you guys can’t produce good image. I will give you better one plus service as well,” @foreverkinginfo tweeted.
Ayomide Matthew added, “That a media officer of the club approved this photos is utterly worrisome and disgraceful for a club like Kano Pillars. Al Ahly, Zamalek, Mamelodi Sundowns, Raja Casablanca, As Vita, TP Mazembe among other big names in African football dare not do this. It’s embarrassing.”
“Nigeria league needs intense branding to be frank. I just saw Kano Pillars, one of the biggest clubs in NPFL, unveiling their new jersey and it was like they use Hot 4 to take the picture. Someone was holding it like inter house sport jersey,” Timilehin Ajayi also tweeted.
“It’s such a big shame that a big club such as Kano Pillars with so much rich history and dynasty are unveiling their kit in such manner, in a football world where unveiling your kits has become a big debate and part of PR for clubs all over,” @Garrincha_bk also tweeted.
The backlash forced Pillars into deleting pictures of the unveiling from their Twitter page.
