An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, on Thursday, sentenced a 28-year-old man, Seun Kayode, to life imprisonment for kidnapping a 12-year-old girl.

Justice Abiodun Adesodun, who pronounced Kayode guilty as charged, sentenced him to life imprisonment.

The convict, who was said to have committed the offence with others at large in May 2018, was tried for kidnapping and terrorism.

“The offence was committed on or about May 2, 2018, at Ayetoro Ekiti in Ekiti State, when the accused and others at large kidnapped a 12-year-old girl contrary to Section 3(a) of the Kidnap and Terrorism (Prohibition) Law of Ekiti State, 2015,” the charge sheet read in part.

The victim, who in the course of the trial, narrated her ordeal, said she was with her three friends during break time in their school when they saw three men descending from a tree.

“The three men held us, gagged our mouths and tied us to a tree. They then started rejoicing. It was our cries for help that attracted the people, who came to rescue us. But I can recognise this person (Kayode) among the three men,” she said.

The state Attorney General, Mr Olawale Fapohunda, who prosecuted the case, called five witnesses, including the victim and the investigating police officer, while the statement of the defendant was tendered as an exhibit.
