Former Super Falcons assistant coach, Maureen Mmadu, has lamented the indulgence of young athletes in drugs in the country.

Mmadu, who is the Ambassador to the Anambra Football, said it was important that the young athletes should be educated on the negative effects of the substances on them and their careers.

The use of drugs to enhance sports performance in athletes is currently a worldwide social problem and there has been concern among coaches and trainers in the country.

Ahead of the Anambra Female Football Kiddies’ competition, the former Falcons star paid a visit to the Sate Commander National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mohammed Idris, to intimate him about the Kiddies project coming up.

Speaking with Us, Mmadu said the rate of drug usage by young athletes worries her and that the project will help in educating them.

“The project is also aimed at teaching young footballers on the need to stay away from drugs,” Mmadu told US.

“I am worried and concern about the rate of drug usage by young athletes.

“We have a lot of things to teach them apart from football. Doctors will talk to them about the need for healthy living. Many of them don’t know the negative effect of drugs on them; they are kids, so they need to be educated.”
