THE Commandant-General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr Ahmed Audi, has called for a multi-agency approach and effective collaboration to tackle the menace of banditry, kidnappings and other forms of insecurity in the country.

The new NSCDC helmsman also decried what he described as the unnecessary rivalry and envy among the security agencies, stressing that a common front was vital to combating criminality.

Speaking at a two-day workshop for State Commandants of the corps organised by a German foundation, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, in Abuja on Wednesday, Audi said security agencies needed to work as a team and harness one another’s core competencies to build a formidable front to face the challenges head on.

He stated, “The need for multi-agency approach through effective synergy cannot be overemphasised. This could be demonstrated in the exchange of vital security information and intelligence.”

Audi listed plans to carry out massive redeployments as part of measures to rejig the corps for better operational efficiency

He said, “As you are all aware that I’m barely two weeks old in office and after this workshop, we are going to meet on Friday to brainstorm. I will unveil to you my roadmap, so that if you are with us; you will join the train, and if you are not with us, you will find your way.’’

The country representative of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Dr Vladimir Kreck, explained that the workshop was meant to enhance the capacity of the state commandants and promote inter-agency collaboration and civil-military relations.
