The League Management Company and the Nigerian football fraternity are in mourning, following the death of former Nigeria striker and Lobi Stars coach, Barnabas Imenger.
Imenger, 45, passed away in the early hours of Monday morning (today) at the National Hospital, Abuja.
The news of the ex-international was confirmed by Lobi’s media officer, Austin Tyowua.
“The whole team is in mourning, it was a rude shock to us all at the club. He has been at the Federal Medical Centre Makurdi for a while and was recently referred to a national hospital in Abuja but didn’t make it.
“We were told he had a kidney infection that was cancerous and it was a delicate situation.”
The corpse of the former Lobi gaffer has been deposited at the Bishop Murray Hospital in Makurdi.
The League Management Company, in a tweet, mourned the ex-international.
“Our deepest condolences to Lobi Stars and the entire football community in Nigeria on the passing away of former international and Lobi Stars Team Manager Barnabas Imenger.”
Sports multimedia journalist, Taiye Adigun, tweeted, “I’m in shock right now. May the Lord bless your soul Barnabas Imenger, former Super Eagles and Flying Eagles midfielder.”
Journalist Fisayo Dairo said, “Rest in Peace: Former Super Eagles forward Barnabas Imenger… Saudi 95 memories.”
Imenger led Lobi to a second-place finish in the 2015 Federation Cup.
The ex-Super Eagles striker was appointed Team Manager of the Ortom Boys in 2013.
As a player, he was a member of the Nigerian team to the FIFA Confederations Cup in 1995 in Saudi Arabia.
