A middle-aged man, identified as Gbenro Adetunji, has allegedly strangled his wife, Wayesola, at Salvation Army Street, Odojomu, Ondo City, Ondo State.
The reason for the action was unknown as of the time of filing this report, but it was gathered that the incident happened following a misunderstanding between the couple.
However, the five-year-old daughter of the deceased, Fayoke, who allegedly witnessed how her mother was killed, was reported to have said that she saw her father on the bed turning her mum’s neck when she was going to the toilet in the morning.
She also stated that her father threatened to kill her when she made an attempt to run outside to seek help from neighbours.
According to a source, neighbours informed the deceased’s brother on the phone about the incident and the brother later invited the police to the scene.
“The neighbours had to lock up the man and the lifeless body of his wife inside the room so that he won’t escape as the deceased’s brother went to the Enuowa Police Station in Ondo to report the matter,” the source stated.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, confirmed the arrest of the suspect and said the case had been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
