Men of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three suspects for allegedly dispossessing a man of his Lexus car at gunpoint in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Thursday that the suspects were arrested after an encounter with men of the Police Mobile Force Squadron 63 in Ikorodu.

He stated that a locally-made pistol, one expended cartridge, other weapons, a Toyota Camry car and the snatched Lexus car were recovered from the suspects.

Adejobi said, “Men of the Lagos State Police Command’s Special Squad, Ikeja, have arrested three suspected armed robbers, two weeks after they snatched a Lexus car at gunpoint in the Ikorodu area of the state on July 11, 2021.

“The suspected armed robbers, who went for the said operation with their Toyota Camry operational car, had an encounter with men of the Police Mobile Force Squadron 63, Ikorodu, Lagos, and were forced to abandon the two cars and flee.

“The case was transferred to the Special Squad, Ikeja, for further investigation and arrest of the armed robbers. The men of the Special Squad painstakingly went after the armed robbers and were able to arrest one Omoyemi Jimoh, 30, in Ikorodu on July 23, 2021, while the other two members of the gang, Ademola Michael, 31, and Olawale Adewale, 29, were arrested on July 27, 2021, at different locations in Ikorodu.

“Items recovered from them include one locally-made pistol, one expended cartridge, assorted charms and other weapons, one Toyota Camry car with number plate KRD 417 GL and the snatched Lexus car.”

In another development, Adejobi said operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad on routine patrol and anti-traffic robbery surveillance, on Thursday, arrested two members of a notorious syndicate that specialised in mobile phone theft on the busy Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja.

He stated, “The two suspects, Abiodun Idowu, 40, an indigene of Sagamu-Remo in Ogun State and resident at No. 3 Segilola Street, Agege, Lagos, and Adeleke Adekunle, 27, an indigene of Ila-Orangun in Osun State, who resides in No. 7 Araromi Street, Kola, Alagbado, Lagos, were arrested after dispossessing one Olakunle John, a corps member, of his phone.

“Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to having been in the criminal act of phone theft for a while. Further credible intelligence is being channelled towards the arrest of their fleeing accomplices. One Galaxy A20 phone and two SIM cards belonging to the victim were recovered from them.

“The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has commended the Commander of the RRS, CSP Yinka Egbeyemi, and his operatives, and the Special Squad for the feats recorded and ordered that the suspects be moved to the Special Squad, Ikeja, for discreet investigation.”
