COVID-19 third wave: Lagos, FCT, 11 others report 610 new cases, two deaths

Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory and eleven other states reported 610 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, according to figures released on Wednesday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

The health agency also reported two additional COVID-19 related deaths. 

The NCDC disclosed this on its official website on Wednesday.

According to the agency, the 610 new cases were recorded from Lagos, the FCT, and eleven other states.

Lagos recorded the highest numbers for new infections with 281 cases, Rivers – 152, Akwa Ibom – 85, Ogun – 21, Oyo – 21, Ekiti – 14, FCT – 13, Delta – 7, Edo – 6, Ondo – 4, with Bayelsa, Kano and Plateau reporting two cases each.

The health agency said the 610 new COVID-19 infections have brought the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 179, 118

However, 166, 131 COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged in the country, the agency said.

With two deaths reported, the death toll from the virus has risen to 2,194, NCDC said.

It added that a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre, activated at Level 2, had continued to coordinate the national response activities.
