The Aragbiji of Iragbiji Land, HRM Oba Abdur Rasheed Olabomi, was a participant at the seminar held for Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders and other stakeholders organized by the Childrights Information Bureau of Federal Ministry of Information and Culture in collaboration with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), on the negative effects of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The seminar was held at the Leisure Spring Hotels Limited, Osogbo, Osun State on September 1st, 2021.
Participants were made to understand the impact culture plays in FGM and why the act should be stopped in the various local governments in Osun State as it is harmful, illegal, outdated and an infringement on the right of the females in our society as well as sour experience for females.
The traditional rulers in attendance including the HRM the Aragbiji of Iragbijiland and other stakeholders unanimously supported the and signed that FGM be stopped by all in Osun State while the extant law should be enforced in the state while offenders should be punished to serve as deterrent for others
HRM Oba Abdur Rasheed Olabomi was so touched by the presentation that he admonished all the traditional rulers present to return to their various Towns to enforce the the decision taken to stop FGM immediately. He equally suggested and it was accepted by all that HRM the Alaagba of Aagba who is a Professional should address members of the Council of Obas at its meeting slated for Thursday 02/09/2021 adding that Obas should not handle the matter with levity.
