The Black Stars of Ghana, who dimmed Super Eagles hope of taking part in 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar was on Friday clinically beaten 4-1 by Japan in the 2022 Kirin Cup four-nation invitational tournament.

Despite parading the likes of Andre and Jordan Ayew, Mubarak Wakaso, Daniel Amartey and Kudus Mohammed, Felix Afena-Gyan the Black Stars could not withstand the fire power of the hosts.

The poor run of form of the Black Stars continues as they have won just one of their nine games in 2022.

Miki Yamane opened scoring for Japan in the 29th minute before Jordan equalized for the Black Stars in the 44th minute. Kaoru Mitoma again put Japan ahead in the added time of the half time

In the 73rd minute Takefuso Kubo got Japan’s third while Daizen Maeda added the fourth in the 82nd minute.

In the other game, the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia defeated Chile 2-0 and will meet Japan in the final. The third-placed match is between Ghana and Chile on Tuesday, 14 June.

Ghana qualified for this year’s FIFA World Cup for the fourth time after edging bitter rivals the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Otto Addo Boys are drawn in Group H with Portugal, two-time World Cup winners Uruguay, and South Korea while Tunisia, who will be making their sixth appearance at the World Cup will face World Cup champions France, Denmark as well as a yet-to-be-known opponent.

The Kirin Cup tournament was founded in 1978 and was last held in its full form in 2016.
