OSUN ECONOMY TO RECEIVE N1.8 BILLION BOOST THROUGH FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION.

The Chairman of the Federal Government Public Works Programme in Osun State, Professor Yekeen Abilagbo said the Federal Government public works scheme will inject the sum of 1.8 billion naira into the state’s economy between October and December 2020.

Professor Abilagbo who is a retired career Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria explained that Osun would have 30,000 beneficiaries to be spread evenly at the rate of 1000 each across the 30 Local Government Areas of the State.

Professor Abilagbo disclosed this today in an interactive session with Management Team of the Bureau of Social Services led by the Director General, Mr. Richard Tinubu.

The Chairman said the programme is a social intervention scheme of the Federal Government tied to the COVID-19 pandemic palliatives.

While explaining that the scheme is designed to alleviate the sufferings of the poor Nigerians who must have been severely hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, Professor Abilagbo told BOSS that the Committee is now at the data processing stage having completed the field work on data collation.

He said part of the measures put in place by the committee to generate authentic list of beneficiaries was that registration of interested beneficiaries was done at the ward level in each of the Local Governments adding that beneficiaries of other interventions such as NPOWER, Conditional Cash Transfer etc could not participate in the scheme.

The carreer Ambassador noted that each of the 30,000 beneficiaries would be given a monthly stipend of 20k each which means a sum of six hundred million naira would be injected into the states economy monthly for 3 months. Prof. Abilagbo explained that the take off date for the scheme is first of October while it would wind up in December 2020.

The chairman said membership of the committee which is multi sectoral in nature comprises of Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Olufi of Gbongan, and Awara of Iwara as representatives of traditional rulers from the 3 senatorial districts while NDE, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Christian Association of Nigeria, Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Iyaloja-General, Babaloja and youth groups are also on the committee.

Earlier in his remarks, the DG BOSS, Mr. Richard Tinubu said the Bureau is interested in the activities of the Committee stressing that beneficiaries must be residents of the state and not impersonators.

Mr. Tinubu who assured the committee of support of the bureau said the State Governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola is committed to the social well-being of the people of the state.

While commending the Committee members for doing a good job, Mr. Tinubu said the scheme would complement the social welfare programme of the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola stressing that a sum of one point eight billion naira (#1.8b.) would have been added to the GDP of the state through the Program
