The Director of National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Professor Christiana Adeyeye is worried that personnel of the agency are kept away from entry points where illicit drugs and substances found their ways into Nigeria.

She has therefore stressed the need for the deployment of NAFDAC personnel to airports, seaports and other entry points to curb the crime at that critical stage before the illegal drugs and substances get to the market or the end users.

Professor Adeyeye made the call in a remark at the opening of a five-day National Security Conference Training on Chemicals organised by the Counter Terrorism Centre in the Office of National Security Adviser.

The Director-General of NAFDAC noted that it is illogical that the agency is not allowed to be in the ports only to be invited by the Nigerian Customs.

She pointed out that the non presence of the agency personnel in those critical areas is one of the root causes of drugs and substances abuse leading to loss of thousands of lives in the country.
