The monarch of Oso Ajowa Akoko in the Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Clement Jimoh, who was kidnapped, has regained his freedom.

The traditional ruler, who was abducted from his palace, was set free by the bandits after seven days in their den.

According to a family source, Jimoh was freed on Wednesday.

“Kabiyesi regained freedom yesterday (Wednesday) evening but he has been taken to a hospital for treatment,” the source stated.

It was earlier reported that the abductors contacted the family and demanded N100m for his release, which was later reduced to N10m.

Another family source disclosed that the kidnappers were paid N10m before the traditional ruler was released.

He stated, “Kabiyesi was released around 10pm yesterday (Wednesday). That was the exact time the family was contacted from Kogi State, where he was dropped between Kabba and Lokoja.

“The abductors collected a sum of N10m ransom raised by the chiefs of our town and our successful children who are based abroad. Our Kabiyesi is in the hospital in Lokoja, where he is being treated, because he has become weary and needed medical treatment to regain his strength.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the release of the monarch.
