A 35-year-old man, Abubakar Haruna, alleged to be a kidnapper and supplier of arms and ammunition to bandits, has lost his life from gunshot injuries he sustained while attempting to escape from security operatives on Wednesday.
According to the police, Haruna of Illela village, Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, was shot in the leg at Tsaskiya junction in the same council.
He was said to be carrying 600 rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition of AK 47 rifle to bandits inside Rugu forest when the police and a vigilante group intercepted him at the junction.
The ammunition was concealed inside a sack and tucked underneath the seat of the motorcycle he was riding.
The Spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, Gambo Isah, said, “Nemesis caught up with the hoodlum when he was accosted at Tsaskiya junction, riding on an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle heading towards the forest.
“Suspect failed to stop when he was asked to and took to his heels; hence he was shot in the leg.”
Haruna’s corpse was displayed at the Katsina headquarters of the police command on Thursday afternoon.
