As part of its projections into the coming year, the leadership of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Osogbo Chapter will continue efforts to provide mentorship and support to young female engineers, helping them thrive in their careers.
Engineer Mrs Ayotunde Oluyemisi Akanni stated this during her inauguration as the 5th chairman of the association and awards of recognition program held on the 28th of October 2023 at FC Elisam event Hall, Alekuwodo, Osogbo, Osun state Nigeria.
The event themed Empowering Women in Engineering A Path to Innovation and Equality and was presented by Prof. Titilayo Olubunmi Olaposi who is a principal research fellow, and an Associate professor at the African Institute for Science Policy and Innovation of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. The event also saw some members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers who have distinguished themselves in their various professions conferred with awards of recognition.
The awardees include an Ede-born distinguished member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE), who doubles as a permanent secretary: Engineer Idowu Bashir Bello who has left an indelible mark through his various roles within the Ministry of Work and Infrastructure of the Osun State government.
Also awarded at the colourful event are women who have distinguished themselves in excellent leadership. These include an educationist, Dr. Mrs. Rebecca Adeola Ayoola who is an Ejigbo born in Nigeria.
She has a Ph.D. in Education Measurement and Evaluation in addition to a B.Ed.in Educational Management. She is the President, of the National Council of Women’s Societies of Nigeria (NCWS), Osun State Chapter and Engineer Bosede Modupeola Oyekunle MNSE, MINNIE who is the Southwest Zonal Coordinator of APWEN. She holds a B.Sc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Ibadan Nigeria.
Engineer Mrs Oyekunle currently works as a senior instrumentation and control systems Engineer with Worley Company.
Highlights of the epoch-making event include the Chairman’s address by the Engineer. Dr. Elizabeth Eterigbo, the inauguration of the 5th Chairman, Swearing in of other executive members, Goodwill messages, and Donations among others.
The event was graced by creme de la creme in society.
