The renowned Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, Odundun IV attends the grand finale of the Abeni Visual and Performing Arts Institute (AVPAI) 5 day-symposium which held on Thursday 10th March, 2022 at the Institute’s Campus, Segudu, Iragbiji, Osun State.
Oba Olabomi said the symposium which was themed “Sustaining Yoruba Art & Culture” could not have been held at a better time than now when the Yoruba culture is threatened with gradual extinction while the need to consciously and intentionally handover a good knowledge of the culture unto the younger generation is highly prepotent.

HRM Aragbiji who was the Royal host of the occasion appreciated everyone who attended the symposium with special appreciation to HRM Oba (Prof.) Adekunle Okunoye, the Eburu of Iba, and the Commisoner of Culture and Tourism, Dr. Obawale. He then commended the founder of AVPAI, High Chief Muraina Oyelami for the great job he is doing so far in sustaining the Yoruba heritage especially with the audiovisual Institute aimed at empowering the youths by way of transferring knowledge of art unto them. He urged him not to relent but rather create a means whereby the Institute will become a legacy he will leave behind by building systems that will make it run smoothly without his physical involvement even after he passes on at old age. He also applauded Prof. Siyan Oyeweso, Executive Director, Centre for Black Culture & Int’l Understanding for the well packaged lecture which he skillfully delivered during the course of the symposium being the Keynote Speaker.

Lastly, the highly revered Monarch congratulated the Iconic Art Awardees Ulli Beier, Georgina Beier, Susanne Wenger and Duro Ladipo. He then encouraged those coming behind to walk in their footsteps and make their own contributions to the preservation of the Yoruba culture and field of art at large.
