The Benue State Government on Wednesday honoured Benue-born Super Falcons striker Francisca Ordega and Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi for making the state proud internationally.
The State Executive Council members, chaired by Governor Samuel Ortom, his deputy, Benson Abounu, and other members of the SEC, gave the two footballers an ovation for being true ambassadors of Benue State and the country in general.
Governor Ortom acknowledged the outstanding performances of Ordega and Onazi for the national teams and their respective clubs, which he said had put the name of the state on the global map of sports.
He urged the two Benue-born players to sustain their discipline and hard work, assuring them that the state government would continue to support all its sons and daughters in sports home and abroad.
The footballers, in separate remarks, expressed gratitude for the honour done them by the sate, saying they were spurred to do more.
While Onazi pledged his resolve to attract investment opportunities back home, Ordega appealed for support from the government for a women’s football team she intended establishing in the state.
