COVID-19: Finally, Katsina locks down borders, restricts movements

The Katsina State Government finally joined her counterparts in the North-West states Including Kaduna and Kano in locking down its borders neighbouring with states including Niger Republic and also restricted the movements of people effective Saturday, March 28

The Katsina Commissioner for information, Culture and Home Affairs, Abdulkarim Yahaya Sirika who made the announcement in a statement he issued on Friday in Katsina said the measure was to avoid the spread of Coronavirus into the state.

He added that the movement of people into the state is also expected to be prohibited with effect from 6:00am on Saturday 28th March, 2020.

He said “His Excellency Governor Aminu Bello Masari has directed the closure of all border with neighbouring states and Niger Republic’’.

“However, fuel takers and Vehicles conveying food items and other essential commodities will be allowed into the state subject to their screening and test at the point of entry”,

The Commissioner further announced that people are allowed to freely move wherever they want to go within but not outside the state

In a related development, workers in the state have been directed to stay at home from Friday, March 27 till the state government reviews the situation by Sunday, March 29 before issuing a directive on further cause of action

A statement from the state’s Head of Service, Alhaji Idris Usman Tune, also disclosed that workers on essential services are exempted from this directive
