
A 29-year-old woman, Shukurat Ademola has been sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment by The Ibadan Division of the Federal High Court for dealing in 500gm of cannabis.
Justice Uche Agomoh held that she convicted and sentenced Ms Ademola based on the evidence tendered against her by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Mrs Agomoh noted in her judgment that she took cognisance that the convict did not waste the time and resources of the court before pleading guilty and being a first-time offender.
She also said Ms Ademola was remorseful of her action and willing to contribute positively to society.
The judge, therefore, sentenced Ms Ademola to 10 months in prison, effective from the date she was arrested.
The NDLEA counsel, D.O. Otunla, informed the court that the convict was arraigned on a-count charge bordering on unlawful possession of cannabis. He also added that the agency’s operatives had arrested Ms Ademola on July 13 at the School for the Handicapped for another crime, at Ijokodo area of Ibadan.
