Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, has announced the appointment of 155 Special Assistants in the state.

The appointment of the Special Assistants is coming as the state chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress hsaid it had resolved issues with the state government over planned deduction of workers’ salaries government house source who confirmed the appointments on Monday said the governor had the prerogative to appoint as many special assistants as he wished.

“There is no memo to the appointment of the Special Assistants. The governor has the prerogative to appoint as many as the resources can take,” the source said

The NLC Secretary, Mr Iboro Ebara, who confirmed the salary deductions, however, said the government had agreed to refund the deductions with the July salary.

He said the appointment of new 155 Special Assistants was at the prerogative of government, adding  that the union was not opposed to the appointment of the SAs by the governor as this would act “as palliatives to the beneficiaries.”
