Adamawa state Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri on Friday presented a budget proposal of N175 billion to the state House of Assembly for consideration as the budget of the state for the 2023 fiscal year.

Presenting the budget to the lawmakers in Yola, Fintiri said he tagged it ‘Budget of Consolidation and Projects,’ which he said was to consolidate what his government had done in the previous years since he became governor in 2019.

The budget estimate of N175,019,054,060 comprises a recurrent expenditure proposal of N105,011,432,436 (60 per cent of the total proposal), and a capital expenditure proposal of N70,007,621624 (40 per cent of the total budgetary proposal).

He announced that education was allocated the largest share of the capital expenditure proposal because apart from working to sustain numerous ongoing projects in the sector, some new ones, such as establishing three special schools for the gifted, would be accommodated in the proposed budget.

The governor, who also pledged the completion of all ongoing projects as scheduled, noted it was to the credit of his administration that prudent management of state resources had resulted in the completion of all projects started by his predecessor.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon Aminu Abbas, in his remark after Governor Fintiri had laid the budget before him, said the lawmakers’ cooperation had been instrumental to the success of the administration.

Hon. Japhet Kefas, who is the Majority Leader, disclosed after the first reading of the budget, that the budget would be passed before December 31, 2022.
