The Lagos State Government has identified 400 distressed buildings in the state.
The General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Mrs Biola Kosegbe, stated this on Monday during the inauguration of the Green Check Sticker, an initiative to check illegal building construction in the state.
She noted that the sticker would help the agency to effectively monitor ongoing building construction and reduce the rate of building collapse in Lagos.
“For us in LASBCA, we are aware of the attendant impact of a sustainable, safe, secure and habitable building on the welfare of our people and the quest to generate a vibrant policy, plans and programmes based on our responsibilities for a well-planned city,” she added.
Kosegbe explained that the agency would present a log book to every developer or site engineer handling a building for proper recording of the work progress in line with the guidelines of the state.
The general manager said buildings under construction without the free sticker would be regarded as illegal.
The state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Idris Salako, said the sticker would be issued to construction sites with all necessary permits and approvals.
