FOUR grave diggers have been arrested in Akure, the Ondo State capital, after five human heads were found in their possession.

The suspects, Kunle Olomofe, 45, Adewale Abiodun, 40, Akinola Sunday, 69, and Oluwadare Idowu, 67, work at a cemetery owned by Akure South Local Government.

Sources said they were arrested while trying to cut off the head of a freshly buried truck driver.

It was gathered that the suspects ran out of luck when family members of the truck driver returned to make arrangements on how to secure the grave site when they saw the body exhumed.

“It was when we caught them in the act, which led to their beating, that we discovered that they were in possession of other humans heads,” a family member said.

“We immediately contacted men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) who came to pick them up.”

Police spokesperson Tee-Leo Ikoro said investigation had begun into the matter.

“From what we have found out, it shows that it’s not their first time. It’s something they have been doing; it’s a routine thing,” Okoro said.
