Kano Govt Destroys Illicit Drugs Worth N1billion

Kano State Task Force on Drug Abuse in its effort to address the menace of hard drugs in the state, has since inception intercepted and destroyed illicit drugs worth over N1 billion.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on the occasion of marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse, via a statement issued by the commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba noted that the theme of this year’s observance: “Better Knowledge for Better Care” is apt, considering that the public is largely not fully aware of the social implication of drug abuse.

Ganduje, however, called on anti-drug initiatives to involve aggressive public education, more define laws and fostering greater cooperation in countering the menace of drug abuse.

According to him, there is a need for an aggressive social media campaign against drug abuse to bring to fore the impact of the threat endangering not only the lives but the economy of many nations.

The Governor, who also disclosed that plans to establish the state Drug Administration Agency are underway to battle addiction, the introduction of a compulsory drug test for political appointees, civil servants and students seeking admission into the tertiary institutions.
