The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development have announced the partial reopening of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja and the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The reopening was announced in a statement signed by the sport ministry’s Director Facilities, which was made available to our correspondent on Thursday.

This comes after the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 lifted the ban placed on contact sports October 15.

The statement said activities in both stadiums will take place between 7:00am and 5:00pm daily.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development will on Monday reopen the Velodrome, tennis courts, practice pitches and practice tracks of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja from 7.00am to 5.00pm daily.

“The Stadium was closed as part of COVID-19 Prevention Protocols to stop the spread of coronavirus,” the statement read.

“Other facilities to be reopened are the handball, volleyball and basketball outdoors and indoors courts as well as the Gymnasium Hall.

“The Ministry will also reopen some facilities at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. These are the indoors sports hall, hockey pitch, tennis courts,  swimming pool, astro(legacy) pitch, squash court, para lifting gymnasium and Ayonote Boxing Gymnasium. They will all open from 7.00am to 5.00pm.”

The sports ministry however said the mainbowls of the Abuja and Lagos stadiums being rehabilitated by businessmen Aliko Dangote and Kessington Adebutu respectively remain closed to the public.
