
Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has stated that the serious attention being given to the health care of the people, particularly the mothers and children is a reflection of his passion for the masses and posterity.
Represented by his Deputy, Mr Benedict Alabi during the flag-off of the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week at the State Immunization Office, Ayegbaju market Osogbo, Governor Oyetola was quoted as saying “the commitment to improved health care services, which is part of the development agenda of his government since inception, is a holistic initiative that takes care of the people in all spheres.”
While lamenting the high rate of infant mortality in Nigeria, the Governor vowed that his administration shall stop at nothing to ensure that mothers and children who are leaders of tomorrow always get the best healthcare in Osun.
He however enjoined the health care workers in Osun to continue to educate the mothers in the state on the need to judiciously utilize the government programmes and facilities including the 332 primary health care centers , the Osun health insurance scheme provided by his administration and many others to bridge the gaps between provision and facilities and their effective usage.
In his address of welcome, Special Adviser to the Governor on public health Dr Olasiji Olamiju said “the health week Programme will afford the mothers and children in the state the promotion of their physical and mental health through the administration of vitamin A to children of age 0 to five. The will also benefit from immunization against different diseases, HIV and family planning counseling as well as deworming exercise.
In their seperate remarks, the State representative of UNICEF Mr Solomon Isreal, World Health Organization state representative, Dr Bello Hammed and State Director for the National Primary Health Care Development Agency represented by Pharmacist Faseyi Abiola commended Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s administration for its commitment in the state health sector just as they promised the continuous support of their agencies towards the health care service in Osun.
