The Ekiti State Police Command, on Tuesday, arraigned a 26-year-old man, Tafa Emmanuel, before an Ado Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for unlawful conversion of funds and selling of his benefactor’s motorcycle in his care.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant sometime in June 2020 at Housing Estate in Ado-Ekiti refused to remit the N2,000 daily repayment for the motorcycle given to him on lease.

He said, “The defendant, between June 2020 and January 11, 2021 at Housing in Ado-Ekiti, did conduct himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by converting the sum of N240,000 to his own use, being the money he realised from the motorcycle given to him for commercial purposes and failed to remit to the owner.

“The defendant also did sell the Boxer Bajaj motorcycle valued at N120,000 and given to him for commercial purposes without the consent of the owner and converted the money for his own used.”

According to Adeniyi, the offences are punishable under sections 249 (d) and 390 (a) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

Counsel for the defendant, Mr Abiola Gboyega, prayed the court to admit his client to bail.

The magistrate, Bankole Oluwasanmi, admitted Emmanuel to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned further hearing till February 9, 2021.
