The resident medical doctors at the Ondo State University Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Akure, have begun a warning strike following alleged non-payment of salaries by the state government
According to the medical workers, the state government allegedly owes them four months’ salaries.
The doctors, who staged a mini-protest at the office of the Chief Medical Director of the teaching hospital, promised to embark on an indefinite industrial action if the government failed to respond to their demands by next Monday.
The spokesman of the protesting doctors, Dr Taiwo Olagbe, appealed to well-meaning Nigerians and other stakeholders to prevail on the state government to settle their unpaid salaries.
He also alleged the other health workers under the state health management board receive their salaries regularly but the doctors were allegedly left out.
Efforts to reach state government officials to react to the allegations of the doctors proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.
