
The Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, is currently meeting with members of the Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons.
The agenda for the meeting, as at the time of publication, was not yet known, however, there were indications that the committee could discuss the recently submitted report on its findings.
Among those present at the meeting were Major General Advisor for National Security (NSA) Babagana Monguno (Rtrd.), The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, Minister of the Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama.
Others were the Director General of the State Service Department (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, Comptroller General of Customs, Col Hameed Ali, DG of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Ahmed Rufai, Chief of Defense Intelligence (CDI), AVM Mohammed Saliu Usman.
The committee was created to accelerate the process of combating the illegal proliferation of weapons not only in Nigeria but also with ECOWAS member states and development partners.
However, Professor Osinbajo recently called for enhanced synergy and a strategic security policy between Nigeria and neighboring countries in the war on terrorism and violent extremism in Nigeria and in neighboring countries.
