
Chairman, Osun Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) Otunba Segun Oladitan has revealed that the 2022 Local Government Election in Osun State would hold Saturday, October 2, 2022.
Otunba Oladitan who stated this on Monday August 15, during the media briefing which held at the commission’s Office in Osogbo affirmed that the Commission was fully prepared for the exercise which would be done on parliamentary system.
Briefing the Media, Oladitan said “you would kindly recollect that when this commission conducted elections in January 2018, it was based on parliamentary system. I have the pleasure to inform you that the elections we are conducting this 2022 shall be on presidential system whereby Chairmen of Local Governments Councils shall be elected directly and the Ward Councillors shall be elected separately.”
He assured that the poll would be free, fair transparent and credible as the Commission had met with various stakeholders and political parties concerned to inform them of the commission’s readiness for the exercise.
“For some time now, the commission had been making necessary contacts with relevant stakeholders and carrying out in-house preparations for the conduct of local government elections. As recent as Friday August 12, 2022, the commission had parley with all political parties in the state where they were informed of the impending conduct of the elections.
“In accordance with the oath which we members of the commission took, we shall ensure that the elections are free, fair, transparent and credible.
He also noted that the commission would not run foul of laws of Independent National Electoral Commission while the 2022 Osun State law on Local Government election shall be followed to the later.
