
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corrps (NSCDC) Osun State Command will on Tuesday 2nd November,2021start forensic psychological assessment for arms bearing personnel with a view to ascertaining the emotional and psychological status of the personnel so as to forestall any unprofessional act of.misuse of firearms. The Forensic and Behavioural Unit of the Corps is also ready to apply psycho social intervention to officers who may need treatment at the end of the exercise.
The State Commandant, CC Emmanuel Ocheja expressed the imperative of the exercise as the Corps will not tolerate any excuse under the guise of accidental discharge. ” There is nothing as accidental discharge as the process of firing a bullet entails certain steps to be followed”,he said.
The present administration under the Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD,mni to reposition the Corps for a better service delivery in tandem with the best international practices.
The Head of Forensic and Behavioural Unit in Osun State ,DSC Stephen Oyebode explained the readiness of the Unit to conduct the examination for all arms bearing personnel of the Command and that he has gotten all the necessary manpower and resources from the Head of the Unit at the NSCDC National Headquarters,Dr Tersoo Shaapera.
The Corps reiterated the commitment to issue certificate of mental, emotional and psychological fitness only to successful officers at the end of the exercise.
To promote professionalism and enhance better service delivery,Osun State Commandant emphasised on the need to redeploy any officer who fails to meet up with the required standard to other departments and units where they can perform better and maximally.
