
The Governor of the state of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola on Thursday flagged off the rehabilitation of the 1.98km Aagba township road to the delight of residents of the ancient town which is part of the dividends of democracy as promised before the polls.
The Governor who was represented at the flagg-off ceremony by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Oluwole Oyebamiji assured the people of the state that his administration will continue to spread development which include good roads and other infrastructures across all senatorial districts of the state.
Governor Oyetola explained that the road will be completed within three months and will be executed through direct labour by engineers of the State Ministry of Works so as to be prudent with the lean resources of the State.
The Governor added that the present administration will not relent as a government to continue to provide opportunities and facilities for the people because of the belief that the prosperity of Osun lies in the ability of all its people to be gainfully engaged and become channels of prosperity and development to the State.
He said, “Roads are vehicles of socio-economic development. They are crucial to the prosperity and wellbeing of the people and are vital to the manner of economic diversification we seek in the State of Osun.
He noted that Aagba /Ada road is billed to be completed in three months and It has an average width of 9.3m while the scope consists of earthworks, reinforced concrete line drains, reinforced concrete retaining walls, laterite sub-base course, prime coat, 40mm Asphalt and road furniture.
According to the Governor “The socio-economic importance of roads is responsible for the high importance we place on them and it also informs our resolve to spread them across the State for equitable and sustainable development.
“Our goal is to spread infrastructures, including roads to every village in the long run to provide opportunities for the people, eliminate crime and unemployment, and check rural-urban drift.
“I urge the people of Ada and its environs to reciprocate our gesture to engage in small businesses and entrepreneurial activities to boost their personal lives and prosper their families.
“We shall not relent as a government in our efforts to continue to provide opportunities and facilities for our people. We believe that the prosperity of Osun lies in the ability of all its people to be gainfully engaged and become channels of prosperity and development to the State”. The Governor stated.
Speaking further on the road project,the Commissioner for Works and Transport ,Engr Oluremi Omowaye said all requirements for construction of good roads have been factored into the project with assurance that Aagba Township road will meet an international standard.
Engr Omowaye noted that Governor Gboyega Oyetola will not compromise the standard of any of his projects.
Also speaking ,the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs,Hon Adebayo Adeleke explained the deplorable state the road had been before the present Government’s decision to rehabilitate it.
Hon Adebayo used the avenue to charge the people of Aagba and other adjoining towns to reciprocate the gesture extended to them by the present Administration by reelecting Governor Oyetola come 2022.
In his royal remarks,the Alaagba of Aagba ,Oba Rufus Ogunwale appreciated the supreme Being for making the progress occur in Aagba through Governor Oyetola after many years of waiting and expectation to see that the road is road transformed.
Oba Ogunwale however called on Sons and Daughters of Aagba to see the development of the ancient town as common goals to pursue. The kabiyesi also charged them to continue to pray for success of Governor Oyetola and make his second term bid a huge success.
Others dignitaries in attendance include the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation,Mrs Funke Egbemode ,SPecial Adiver to Governor Oyetola on Works and Transportation ,Engr Hussain Olatoke Olaniyan and Kabiyesi Olona of Ada.
