Persons of Integrity with passion for people and their welfare should be elected to manage affairs at the Local Government since the third tier of government is the closest to the grassroots besides being Central to effective governance.
Governor Adegboyega Oyetola made the observation while inaugurating the State Independent Electoral Commission in Osogbo.
The Governor remarked that for local Governments to achieve their aims of spreading prosperity and development,elections that will usher leaders at that level into power must be conducted by people who are above board.
He said premised on that fact,his administration had endeavoured to appoint people of high probity and impeccable character as well as flawless antecedent in their private and public lives as members of OSSIEC.
Mr Oyetola reminded members of the commission that they have been called to positions of responsibility, urging them to work relentlessly to conduct transparent elections to further improve the rating of Osun in all spheres.
The Governor prodded the commission to hit the ground running immediately as there is a lot to do within a short period of time to meet the requirements for the next election.
Stressing that his administration had adhered to its Development Agenda by providing qualitative,adequate and equitable distribution of services across the nooks and crannies of the State,Governor Oyetola told the commission that for people to continue enjoying the ssrvices,the members must conduct elections that will reflect the wishes of the people and consequently produce leaders with Integrity ,strength of character and demonstrable skills to serve the electorates.
In his response, Chairman of the Commission, Otunba Segun Oladitan encouraged all political parties to participate in the coming LG election, vowing that the Commission will not betray peoples trust and confidence.
Other members are Mrs Abosede Omibeku,Mr Rufus Oyeniran,Mrs Suaibat Babalola-Adubi,Mr Oladosu Gidigbi,Mr Olayinka Ajiboye and Mr Wahab Adewoyin.
