A statement issued Sunday in Ibadan by the State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism advised them to change their attitude regarding acts detrimental to the growth and maintenance of public facilities. The statement quoted Ibadan Kamil Akinlabi, president of the Oyo State Road Maintenance Office (OYSROMA), on Sunday.
Akinlabi also warned against burning tires on the roads during the protests, saying it weakens the asphalt and shortens the life of the roads.
He stated that there were other peaceful and non-destructive means of protesting rather than destroying disguised public facilities. The boss of OYSROMA also urged the general public to consider public facilities as their own and to refrain from any act likely to destroy them.
He also implored all state residents to soak up the culture of maintenance to extend the life of public facilities. He revealed that agency management would undertake visits to agency area offices in the state to see the condition of roads and areas that require intervention. He said the visit would help the agency get first-hand information and an on-site assessment of the facilities in each of the four areas, including Ibarapa, Oke-Ogun, Oyo and Ogbomosho, with a view to improving them.
