Robbers, on Wednesday, in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, shot dead a young trader identified as Olanrewaju Oladapo after he retired home after the day’s business.

Sources said the deceased, who specialised in the sale of recharge cards and provisions at the Dallimore area of the state capital, was trailed home around 9.45pm by the assailants, who shot him.

A resident of the area, who identified himself simply as Olatunji said, “The assailants trailed him to his house around the Joe Jane Hospital, Dallimore, Ado Ekiti, ambushed and killed him at the main entrance.

“The young man’s valuables and money were taken away by the killers. The trader moved into the house a few months ago because he felt unsafe in his former apartment.

“We are deeply saddened by the incident and we call on security agents to fish out the perpetrators. Oladapo was a young, enterprising, diligent and respectful man, who had been robbed several times in his former place of residence.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident, saying, “Yes, he was reportedly shot dead by gunmen, while returning home from his shop around 9.45pm yesterday (Wednesday).

“His body has been evacuated and deposited in the morgue. Meanwhile, preliminary investigation is ongoing for the possible arrest of the culprits.”
