A sexagenarian, Usein Ali, has been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly defiling a minor in the Ijora Badia area of the state.

It gathered that the victim, who was sent on an errand, did not return home on time and when she eventually did, her relative began questioning her to know the reason for her lateness.

While being questioned, it was learnt that the victim explained that Ali allegedly waylaid her, took her into a room and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

In a bid to get justice, the relative contacted the police and some personnel of the command were mobilised to arrest Ali.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said the victim had been taken to the Mirabel Centre for treatment, adding that Ali was transferred to the gender unit of the command for discreet investigation.

Elkana stated, “On Thursday, June 11, 2020, around 2.30pm, one Izawaka Mohammed of No. 9 Sango Street, Ijora Badia, reported that a 12-year-old girl was sent on an errand and it took her some hours before she returned. While questioning her for returning late, the victim confessed that one Usein Ali, 67, forcefully took her into a room and had carnal knowledge of her.

“The victim was referred to the Mirabel Centre in Ikeja for treatment. The suspect will be transferred to the gender office of the command for discreet investigation.”

In another development, policemen from the Elemoro Division arrested no fewer than four suspected armed robbers during an operation around the Mayfair Garden Estate in Ajah.

During the operation, the suspects were said to have robbed two victims, Basiru Mohammed and Samuel Obasi, at gunpoint and dispossessed them of their valuables worth N83,000.

It was learnt that after receiving a distress call, the police stormed the crime scene and arrested the suspects.

Elkana, while confirming the incident, identified the suspects as Dayo Adegboye, John Zion, Rasheed Odetola and Dare Salami, adding that they had been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation.

Elkana stated, “On Friday, June 12, 2020, around 9.40pm, there was a distress call from one Fayemi Olalekan that there was a robbery going on at the Gbetu area, opposite the Mayfair Garden Estate. Based on that call, two patrol teams led by ASP Edwin Alabala and Inspector Ayodele Oguntolu raced to the spot, gave the suspects a hot chase, rounded up four suspected armed robbers, Dayo Adegboye, 25, from Gbetu town; John Zion, 23, from Onosa town; Rasheed Odetola, 22, from Abijo town; and Dare Salami, 20, also from Abijo town.

“The robbers attacked one Basiru Mohammed from Gbetu town at gunpoint and stole his Tecno phone valued at N45,000 and N10,000. They also attacked one Samuel Obasi and collected his Tecno Pop 2 phone valued at N28,000. Investigation is ongoing. The suspects will be transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation.”
