A yet-to-be identified woman has been killed by men of the newly-inaugurated Delta State security outfit, Operation Delta Hawk, in Asaba.

It was learnt that a stray bullet from the team’s gun hit the woman, who was in her shop, and she died on the spot.

It was gathered that members of the Operation Delta Hawk team were chasing a young boy, who was escaping from them around 9pm on Tuesday, when they allegedly opened fire on him, but the stray bullet hit the woman, whose shop is located around the Government House.

It was learnt that angry youths carried her corpse and dumped it at the Government House gate on Anwai Road before they were dispersed by security agents.

Reacting on the incident, the Director-General, Young Nigerian Rights Organisation, Victor Ojei, said, “The Army is to defend our country and the police are to protect civilians.

“But when you now involved the Army in internal security, expect the worst.”

When contacted the state Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation was ongoing.

“Yes, a woman was killed but investigation is ongoing to ascertain what really happened,” she stated.
