The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, has awarded scholarship to a nine-year-old hawker, Joseph Opara.
The governor said he would sponsor the child’s education from primary school till he becomes a Catholic priest.
Opara made waves on the Internet at the weekend with a video footage of his Catholic hymn songs, which marked him out as a talented singer.
The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, who visited Opara at his parents residence at Nekede mechanic village in Owerri announced the governor’s benevolence to the family.
He said, “Governor Hope Uzodimma was so excited after listening to the video footage of Master Opara and he directed me to locate you and inform you that from today, Joseph is now his child and that since he wants to become a Catholic priest, he will take up the responsibility of training him from his present Primary Four class until he is ordained a priest.”
