Chairman. Osun Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) Olusegun Oladitan has lauded electorates for their peaceful conduct and large turn out in some wards during the ongoing Local Government Election in the state.
Speaking with Newsmen in his office, Oladitan said he was impressed with the turnout and enthusiasm in some wards and the encouraging reports from various parts of the State which equally indicated a peaceful exercise and the readiness of voters to choose their leaders through the presidential system.
“We are happy with the report from our officers on the field that the process was peaceful and devoid of any hiccup.
“Although there were reports of voter apathy in some places which is not unexpected in an election like this, the large turnout in many parts and request for more ballot papers were indications of readiness and acceptance of it by the people.”
Asked if he was apprehensive of the elections due to the court case instituted by the opposition party seeking an injunction to stop the elections, which went deep before the scheduled date, the Chairman said: “We had no fear because we know the courts will do justice according to the laws.
“Even if the court had ruled that the elections will not hold, we would have had nothing to do but to obey the ruling but the election was not stopped. That’s why it’s holding and we promise to accomplish the process in due course,” said OSIEC Chairman.
